6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Rongai Route

View Itinerary

Overview

About this journey

The Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side near the Kenyan border. Known for its quieter trails, gradual ascent, and excellent summit success rate, the Rongai Route offers spectacular views, diverse landscapes, and abundant opportunities to acclimatize. The route passes through montane forests, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), before descending via the Marangu Route.

Highlights

What you'll experience

  • You enter from Kenya's side, where the forest is quieter and the elephant trails are real. White-necked ravens wheel overhead as the crowds thin to nothing.

  • At around 3,800 m, the giant heather gives way to open moorland dotted with senecio groundsels — plants so alien they look borrowed from another planet's geology.

  • Few routes cross the crater rim and descend to Crater Camp. Glacial ice towers glow blue-white at sunrise while steam vents breathe quietly below.

  • At 5,895 m, Africa simply ends. The curvature of the earth is visible on clear mornings, and the Amboseli plains spread like a watercolour far below.

  • Camp at Kibo Huts sits above the cloud layer. After dinner, the Milky Way is thick enough to read by — Scorpius overhead, the Southern Cross dipping toward Tanzania's southern horizon.

Why choose us

Why choose a Small Group Journey?

The Rongai Route is Kilimanjaro's least-trafficked northern approach, and the difference is felt in the silence of the forest on day one and the uncrowded crater rim on summit morning. Arrive Africa structures the six days around acclimatisation that works, not marketing.

Guides Who Know This Mountain

Lead guide Baraka Minja has summited Rongai more than 280 times. He reads altitude's effect on each individual climber — adjusting pace, nutrition, and rest without being asked.

Capped at Eight Climbers

Eight guests maximum means the guide-to-client ratio stays meaningful and summit night remains a personal experience rather than a queue in the dark.

Logistics Without Gaps

From gate permits to Moshi transfers, park fees, and summit certificates, every logistical detail is handled before you arrive in Tanzania. You carry only what matters.
