Day 1Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional guide from Arrive Africa Safaris. After a short safari briefing, begin your scenic journey to Volcanoes National Park, located in northwestern Rwanda, approximately 2½ hours from Kigali. The drive offers spectacular views of Rwanda's rolling green hills, terraced farmland, picturesque villages, and beautiful mountain landscapes, giving you a glimpse of why Rwanda is affectionately known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills."

Volcanoes National Park is world-famous for protecting one of the largest populations of endangered mountain gorillas and forms part of the magnificent Virunga Mountain Range shared by Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge nestled near the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing, enjoying the tranquil surroundings, and preparing for the exciting gorilla trekking adventure awaiting you the following morning.

Day 2Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Experience at Gorilla Guardians Village

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing by Rwanda Development Board park rangers. During the briefing, you will learn about gorilla trekking guidelines, safety procedures, and conservation efforts before being assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families. Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, set off into the dense rainforest and bamboo-covered slopes of the Virunga Mountains in search of these remarkable primates. The trek may last anywhere from 2 to 7 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family and the terrain.

Once the gorillas are found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch as they feed, groom one another, care for their young, and interact within the family group. Standing just a few meters away from these gentle giants is an emotional and unforgettable wildlife experience that few people ever forget.

After your trek, return to the lodge for lunch and some well-deserved relaxation.

In the late afternoon, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village (formerly Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village), where you'll gain insight into Rwanda's rich cultural heritage. Meet local community members, learn about traditional lifestyles, participate in cultural activities, and enjoy lively performances featuring traditional music, drumming, and energetic dances. You may also visit a traditional king's palace, local healer, and blacksmith while learning about ancient Rwandan customs and history. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3Day 3: Kigali City Tour – Departure

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and begin your return journey to Kigali. Depending on your departure schedule, enjoy a short Kigali city tour, visiting some of the city's most popular attractions. You may stop at the Caplaki Craft Village, where local artisans display a wide selection of handcrafted souvenirs, including baskets, wood carvings, paintings, jewelry, and traditional fabrics—perfect keepsakes to remember your Rwanda adventure.

If time permits, you may also visit other notable landmarks before your guide transfers you to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight. Your memorable 3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Safari comes to an end, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Rwanda's incredible wildlife, stunning scenery, and vibrant cultural traditions.
