📅 Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale National Park & Bigodi Nature Walk


Your safari begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe by your professional safari guide. You will then begin the scenic drive to western Uganda through beautiful countryside landscapes, local villages, tea plantations, and rolling hills.


Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of traditional homesteads, crater lakes, and the lush greenery surrounding Fort Portal, one of Uganda’s most beautiful tourism towns.


You will have lunch in Fort Portal before continuing to Kibale National Park and checking in at your lodge.


In the afternoon, you will visit the famous Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk through the swamp and surrounding forest.


Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is well known for its rich biodiversity and excellent birding opportunities. During the walk, you may spot:


Blue monkeys

Black and white colobus monkeys

Baboons

Red-tailed monkeys

Various butterfly species

Numerous bird species


The nature walk also offers visitors a chance to learn about the local communities and conservation efforts around Kibale Forest.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest & Return to Kampala


Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guides.


During the briefing, you will learn about chimpanzee trekking rules, safety guidelines, and what to expect during the forest experience.


After the briefing, enter the rainforest with experienced ranger guides in search of the chimpanzees. Kibale Forest offers one of the highest chances of seeing chimpanzees in Africa because of its large habituated communities.


As you trek through the forest, you may also encounter:


Black and white colobus monkeys

Red-tailed monkeys

Grey-cheeked mangabeys

Olive baboons

Beautiful forest birds

Butterflies and unique tree species


Chimpanzees are highly active and social primates known for their loud calls, playful behavior, and remarkable intelligence. Watching them feed, groom, swing through the trees, and interact with one another is an unforgettable wildlife experience.


After spending time with the chimpanzees, return to the lodge for lunch before beginning your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.
