📅 Detailed Itinerary
Early Morning Pickup & Transfer to Bwindi Forest
Your safari guide will pick you up very early in the morning at around 6:00 AM from your hotel in Kabale or Kisoro after breakfast. You will then drive to the park headquarters in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for registration and briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. During the briefing, visitors are informed about gorilla trekking rules, safety guidelines, and what to expect while inside the forest. After the briefing, visitors are divided into small groups of up to 8 people and assigned a specific gorilla family to track. The allocation is usually based on fitness level and gorilla family location.
🦍 Gorilla Trekking Experience
After meeting your ranger guides, you will begin trekking through the dense rainforest in search of the mountain gorillas. The trek can take between 3 to 7 hours depending on the movement and location of the gorilla family. Trekking involves hiking through steep slopes, muddy trails, thick vegetation, and uneven terrain, making it both physically demanding and highly adventurous.
Visitors are advised to carry:
Drinking water, Packed lunch or snacks, Rain jacket, Hiking boots, Gardening gloves, Walking stick. Because the weather in Bwindi changes quickly, rain can occur at any time even during the dry season.
Porters are available at the park headquarters to assist visitors with carrying bags and providing support during the trek. Hiring a porter also helps support the local communities around the park.
✨ Encountering the Mountain Gorillas
The most exciting moment of the safari is when you finally locate the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Once the gorillas are found, visitors are allowed to spend one magical hour observing them from a safe distance of about 7 meters. During this time, you may watch them feeding, grooming, resting, or playing within the forest.
Seeing a giant silverback protect his family or young gorillas playing in the trees is a truly emotional and unforgettable experience that remains a lifetime memory for many travelers.
Your ranger guides will explain gorilla behavior and ensure that all visitors follow the trekking guidelines to protect both the gorillas and the trekkers. After the experience, you will trek back to the starting point where you will receive a gorilla trekking certificate before returning to Kabale or Kisoro.
