Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kenya, Welcome and Transfer to Hotel

Welcome to Kenya! Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a driver/guide from Arrive Africa Safaris will be there to greet you and take you on a journey to Amboseli National Park. Please note that your flight should arrive before 1 Pm, otherwise, we can arrange for an extra night in a hotel in Nairobi for you. During the drive to Amboseli, you will enjoy a delicious lunch en-route and take in the stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Once you arrive at Amboseli, you will embark on a game drive to see the diverse wildlife that calls the park home, such as impalas, free-ranging elephants, Grants gazelles, buffalos, warthogs, Masai giraffes, waterbucks, and dik-dik. You will spend two nights at Ol Tukai Lodge, where all of the 80 chalet-style rooms offer breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the surrounding wetlands, as well as guaranteed sightings of elephants, zebras, and buffalos, even from the restaurant area.

Day 2: whole day game drives in Amboseli National Park

Start early with a drive in the park to view the Mt Kilimanjaro as the sun rises. Enjoy taking breathtaking photos you will take for memory’s sake of the landscape and animals waking up. Allow this whole day drive to reward you with sightings of cheetahs, elephants, leopards, spotted hyenas, Masai giraffes, and Grant’s zebras. Go for a late afternoon relaxation back at the lodge like a swim in the pool or sit and take in the views around the park you’re your veranda.

Day 3: Visit Nanyuki town

In the morning, make a final game drive as you drive out of Amboseli National Park then go through Nairobi than the fertile region of Karatina to the Laikipia Plateau. At an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level west of Mt Kenya is where we find this highland. Reaching your hotel outside Nanyuki town in the late afternoon, enjoy the skyline the Town provides of the highest mountain in Kenya and second highest in Africa, Mt Kenya. 

For two nights Sweet waters Serena Safari Camp is where you will stay. Located on the plains of Mt Kenya, the Camp is a sheltered luxury tented camp with 39 luxury tents, each with its own private bathroom and flushing toilet, private veranda overlooking the waterhole where animals come to drink and graze

Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy visit

Visit Ol Pejeta Conservancy which is protects endangered animal species on more than 90,000 acres. It has the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya and is home to animals including the Big 5 like reticulated giraffes, African wild dogs. While at the Morani rhino information Center you can watch the last 3 southern white rhinos in the world, feed them and touch the rhinos including Baraka, a blind black rhino. Learn about these endangered animals, why their numbers are decreasing and what you can do to fight for their population increase. Get a clear view of Mt Kenya from here too.

Day 5: Travel to Samburu National Reserve

Start early on a drive to Samburu national park and when you reach, do an en-route game drive to the lodge where lunch will be waiting for you. After lunch, go on a game drive in the park.

Samburu national reserve has a semi-arid climate, is 165km² and its southern border has Ewaso Ngiro River whose shores have acacias and the Buffalo Springs National Reserve on the other side of the river. This river provides water to the park, without which survival of the game in this arid region would be impossible. Variety of wildlife; animals and birds from the northern plains are in abundance here including gerenuk, Oryx, Grevy’s zebra, giraffe, hippos, buffaloes, hippos, leopards, cheetahs, and lions. A black rhino population has been re-introduced in the park after an absence of 25 years due to heavy poaching. 

For two nights you will stay at Samburu intrepid Camp which is a tented luxury lush oasis on the banks of the great Uaso Nyiro River in the Samburu Game Reserve. The camp sits on raised decks overlooking the brown river where elephants, buffalos, zebras, long-necked gerenuk antelope, Beisa oryx, and crocodiles come to relax by the river banks. Each tent has four-poster beds, mahogany closets and desks with ensuite bathrooms for hot showers, flush toilets, sockets for shavers and battery chargers.

Day 6: Full day game drive in Samburu national reserve

Spend the whole day in Samburu game reserve to explore the dry northern plains and the South’s woodland in a game drive. In the afternoon, you might see leopards lazing in trees. Variety of wildlife; animals and birds from the northern plains are in abundance here including gerenuk, Oryx, Grevy’s zebra, giraffe, hippos, buffaloes, hippos, leopards, cheetahs, and lions. A black rhino population has been re-introduced in the park after an absence of 25 years due to heavy poaching. In the late afternoon relax at the lodge or take a dip in the swimming pool.

Day 7: Travel to Lake Nakuru National Park

Enjoy an en-route game drive out of the Samburu game reserve. Stopover at Thomson Falls and Rift Valley viewpoint where you can take photos. Continue the drive to the floor of the Great Rift Valley surrounded by bushy and wooded grassland to your destination; Lake Nakuru National Park. This park is ideal for game drives, hiking, and bird watching because of its surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges.

Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge is where you will arrive in the late afternoon and will be your residence for the 2 nights. The lodge overlooks the spectacular flamingo pink rimmed Lake Nakuru. Most rooms and sitting areas afford stunning views of the Lake and the park. The lodge blends with its surrounding nature with a landscape that has tall acacia trees and winding walkways.

Day 8: Whole day game drives in Lake Nakuru

Wake up early for a morning game drive and when you return to the Lodge for breakfast, return to the park to spot lions, leopards, antelopes, warthogs, buffaloes and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend a relaxing time at the lodge before the evening game drive which will reward you with great lighting for photos of the lake, the landscapes and animals retiring to their homes. Return to the lodge for a hot meal and allow the day end with you on the verandah watching the sunset.

Day 9: Heading to the Great Masai Mara Game Reserve

Today you drive towards the border of Tanzania to the Great Masai Mara game reserve. In July- October annually, 2 million ungulates migrate from this game reserve to the Serengeti national park alongside predators like lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and leopards following to prey on the weak and slow wildebeests, zebras or antelopes. 

When you reach the gate, enjoy an en-route game drive towards your accommodation option that is a tented camp which will be your home for 2 nights. 

Mara Leisure Camp is where you will stay. This camp is located along the Talek River which is one of the best places considered for viewing the Great Migration. Enjoy facilities at the Camp like the swimming pool, the gift shop which has a variety of locally made Masai souvenirs as well as memorable items with the Camp’s logo to remind you of the adventure you had while at the camp.

Day 10 &11: whole day game drives in Masai Mara

Enjoy whole day game drive safaris in Masai Mara game reserve. If you make an early drive before sun rise, you will see predators after a night hunt and return to the Camp for breakfast. Enjoy the Big 5 in their natural habitat. You can pack lunch and have a picnic in the game reserve. Remember not to litter or feed the animals. After an exciting day in the park, return to the Camp and relax as you enjoy the calmness of the Mara River as it flows in your tent.

Day 12: Departure

After breakfast, you will be returned to Nairobi. Unfortunately, this is the end of your 12-day tour with AA Safaris.

Depending on what time your international flight is, you can do an optional activity in Nairobi though it will be at your own expense. An AA Safaris guide/driver will drive you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. 

Note: Make sure your international flight is after4PM. If you need an extra night in Nairobi, contact your AA Safaris consultant who will make the arrangements at an additional cost.

Ol Tukai Lodge
Ol Tukai has one of the best spots in Amboseli, backed by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, and surrounded by open plains in some of the finest elephant-watching country in the world. Monkeys and baboons roam the grounds, and the dining room and garden terrace are just metres from the elephants, zebra and antelope that stalk the boundary. The two-storey open-air Elephant Bar is an excellent spot for cocktails; head to the upper deck level to soak up the views of the marshlands and Kilimanjaro. The lodge also has an extensive African art collection dotted throughout, and a walkway leads to a large pool surrounded by sun loungers. The chalet-style rooms all boast wonderful views of the wetlands or of Kilimanjaro itself. All are constructed from locally-sourced materials including gum tree, river stone and slate, and have their own private terrace. A sheltered oasis, clustered around a water hole and set in the pristine calm of the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Serena Camp offers a charming blend of under-canvas ambiance and Kenyan safari luxury. Located on the plains of Mount Kenya, the camp features thirty-nine luxury tents, each with its own private veranda overlooking the water hole. The central Rhino Restaurant is housed in the former manager's house of this once colonial farm, and offers both regional and international cuisine. Samburu Interprids
Samburu Intrepids is a lush oasis on the banks of the great Uaso Nyiro River in Samburu Game Reserve. The tented luxury camp is a delight to be in – deliciously cooled by the river breeze and the forest. The camp sits on raised decks overlooking the brown river where the elephants sometimes make an appearance or the crocodiles come out to lounge by the river's banks.
