What you'll experience

  • Most four-day itineraries include one permit. We build in two — on different days and in different sectors of Bwindi — so you experience the forest in morning light and again in the heavy afternoon green, with different families and different terrain each time.

  • Kigezi Highland Camp sits at 2,100 m on the southern rim of Bwindi. At dusk, Albertine Rift fog rolls across the valley below while olive sunbirds work the flowering shrubs at the tent edge. Your guide, Innocent Tibamwenda, keeps a fire going until the stars appear.

  • Mahogany Springs Lodge in Buhoma sits close enough to the forest boundary that habituated gorillas occasionally pass through the grounds. The dining deck overlooks a narrow valley where black-and-white colobus monkeys move through the canopy at breakfast.

  • On the afternoon between treks, a Batwa-heritage naturalist from the neighbouring community leads a two-hour walk along the forest edge. He reads bark, dung, and broken stems the way others read text — pointing out where a gorilla sat, where a bushbuck sheltered from rain.

  • Bwindi holds 23 Albertine Rift endemics. Keep your binoculars out: African green broadbill, Grauer's rush warbler, and the handsome francolin appear most reliably on the quieter trail sections when everyone else is watching the ground for gorilla knuckle prints.

Day 1Arrival in Entebbe – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our safari representative will warmly welcome you and assist with your safari arrangements. Depending on your travel preference, you may either connect to a scheduled domestic flight to Kihihi Airstrip or begin a scenic road transfer toward southwestern Uganda. For guests choosing the domestic flight option, you will enjoy incredible aerial views of Uganda’s rolling hills, forests, lakes, and countryside landscapes before arriving near Bwindi. Upon arrival at Kihihi, meet your professional safari guide and transfer to your safari lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Relax and enjoy the peaceful rainforest atmosphere while listening to the sounds of nature and numerous bird species found within the forest ecosystem.

Dinner and overnight stay at your selected accommodation.

Day 2Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up early for the highlight of your Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari. After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing by experienced park rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You will then enter the ancient rainforest for an unforgettable Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience. The trek leads through dense jungle vegetation, steep forest trails, and spectacular rainforest landscapes in search of one of Bwindi’s habituated gorilla families. Gorilla trekking duration varies depending on the gorillas’ location and movement patterns and may take several hours. Once you encounter the gorillas, you will spend one magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat as they feed, groom, rest, and interact. Witnessing mountain gorillas up close creates one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences.

Important trekking items include, Waterproof hiking boots, Rain jacket, Drinking water, Snacks, Long-sleeved clothing, Camera equipment. Return to your lodge after the trek for relaxation and reflection on this unforgettable gorilla encounter.

Day 3Bwindi Community Experience and Forest Nature Walk

After breakfast, enjoy a guided cultural and community experience around Bwindi. Take a forest nature walk to discover Bwindi’s rich biodiversity while learning about medicinal plants, birdlife, and forest conservation efforts. You may also visit surrounding communities to gain insight into local life and traditions. Optional experiences may include: Batwa cultural encounters, Village community visits, Local school visits, Community health center visits, Local craft and tea projects, Traditional music and dance performances, Interacting with local communities adds a deeper understanding of the relationship between conservation and sustainable tourism.

The cultural experience offers a meaningful opportunity to support local livelihoods while exploring the heritage surrounding Bwindi. Return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 4Departure – Transfer to Entebbe International Airport

Enjoy breakfast at your lodge before beginning your departure journey. Transfer to Kihihi Airstrip for your scheduled domestic flight back to Entebbe or begin the scenic road transfer depending on your travel arrangements. Upon arrival in Entebbe, connect for your international departure flight or onward travel plans. This marks the end of your unforgettable 4 Days Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Safari.

Add two days at Kibale National Park before your Bwindi start. Kibale holds the highest density of primates in East Africa; the chimpanzee community in Kanyanchu sector is habituated and vocal from early morning. Stay at Kibale Forest House and drive south to Bwindi on the afternoon of Day 2.

Gorilla Habituation Experience

Swap one of the standard treks for a full-day gorilla habituation permit in Rushaga. Where a standard permit gives you one hour with a fully habituated family, habituation takes you into the forest at dawn with a semi-habituated group — four to six hours of close observation as researchers continue their work around you.

Minimum Age

Safari Duffel

A soft-sided bag of 15 kg or less is strongly recommended; rigid suitcases are difficult in forest lodges and 4WD vehicles on mountain roads.

Drop-off at Entebbe or Kampala hotel, approximately 22:00 on Day 4

Guaranteed Departures

All departures are private and confirmed upon booking. There is no minimum group size.

Alternate Sightseeing

If a trek is cancelled by UWA due to gorilla family illness or safety conditions, we will attempt to rebook into an alternative Bwindi sector on the same day or the following morning at no additional permit cost.
