Overview

Highlights

What you'll experience

  • Your tracker reads bent stems and knuckle-prints until the canopy parts and a silverback fills the gap — chest rising, eyes steady. The hour passes faster than you think possible.

  • Hippos submerge and resurface metres from the hull; African skimmers cut the surface; a herd of cape buffalo moves along the far bank in a slow, brown river of its own.

  • The Ishasha sector's fig trees hold tree-climbing lions draped across branches like forgotten scarves — a sight that stops conversation cold.

  • After dinner at the lodge, the forest breathes around you — crowned hornbills settling, rain on broad leaves, the distant drum of a chimpanzee pant-hoot fading into dark.

  • The road between Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth threads through the western rift's volcanic craters, each one a different shade of green and blue depending on the algae and the hour.

Why choose us

Why choose a Private Journey?

This route was built around one principle: less windshield time, more time watching. The combination of forest and savanna means two entirely different wildlife registers inside five days — something very few short itineraries deliver honestly.

Permit Secured, Not Promised

Your gorilla permit is confirmed and budgeted before departure. We track permit availability months ahead and hold allocations across multiple trek sectors in Bwindi.

Guides Who Know the Animals

Both your Bwindi tracker and Queen Elizabeth driver-guide work their respective parks daily. Moses Byamukama has guided Bwindi treks for eleven years and reads fresh gorilla sign the way a river guide reads current.

Private, Your Pace

No shared vehicles, no waiting for other groups. If you want to sit longer under a fig tree full of lions, you sit longer.

Accompanied by experienced ranger guides, trek through the ancient forest while learning about the unique ecosystem and wildlife that call Bwindi home. The trek may take anywhere from a few hours to most of the day depending on the location of the gorillas.

During the cruise, expect to see large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and numerous water birds gathering along the shoreline.
