Highlights

What you'll experience

  • On day two you track a habituated family in Bwindi's southern Rushaga sector, where silverbacks have been known to rest in the open and juveniles roll through the undergrowth within arm's reach of the trail.

  • Day four brings the northern side of Bwindi — steeper ridges, older trees, and the Mubare group, one of the first gorilla families ever habituated for tourism in Uganda.

  • The drive between sectors crosses the Kigezi highlands, where terraced hillsides drop into valley mist and women carry bright-cloth loads along red-earth paths — a reminder that this landscape is as human as it is wild.

  • Each evening your lead guide, Samuel Begumanya, walks through the day's tracking data — fresh dung, bent branches, knuckle prints — so the second trek feels less like luck and more like literacy.

  • The camp sits at roughly 2,100 m on the forest edge. After dinner the temperature drops fast, the valley fills with tree-hyrax calls, and the Milky Way comes out in a way that surprises even repeat visitors.

Why choose us

Why choose a Private Journey?

Two gorilla treks in a single safari is not standard — it takes a deliberate itinerary, two different permits, and guides who understand both sectors. Here is why this trip is built the way it is.

Two Sectors, Two Experiences

Rushaga and Buhoma sit at opposite ends of Bwindi and offer genuinely different terrain, different gorilla families, and a different quality of encounter. Planning both into one trip is the surest way to understand the full depth of the forest.

Private, Your Pace

Every element — transfers, lodge selection, trek timing — is arranged for your group alone. No waiting for strangers at the gate. If a family member needs a rest day, we restructure.

Permitted and Accountable

All gorilla permits are secured through the Uganda Wildlife Authority. A portion of every permit fee is directed to community development around the park. Your visit is conservation finance in practice.

You will be assigned a gorilla family and join a small group of no more than eight visitors. Accompanied by expert trackers and armed ranger guides, venture deep into the ancient rainforest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas.

The trek can last anywhere between one and six hours depending on the gorillas' movements and location. Along the way, enjoy sightings of unique bird species, butterflies, forest wildlife, and remarkable plant life. Once the gorillas are located, spend one magical hour observing them as they feed, play, groom, and interact within their family group.
