Overview

About this journey

Experience an unforgettable 2-Day Lake Mburo Wildlife Safari, a perfect short getaway designed for travelers seeking wildlife encounters, beautiful landscapes, and relaxation in western Uganda. Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda’s smallest savannah national park, but it offers remarkable biodiversity, scenic lakes, rolling hills, and exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. Located approximately 4 hours from Kampala, Lake Mburo National Park is an excellent destination for weekend safaris, family holidays, private wildlife tours, and travelers looking for a shorter Uganda safari experience. The park is famous for its large populations of zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, hippos, giraffes, topis, and numerous bird species, making it one of Uganda’s top wildlife destinations.

Highlights

What you'll experience

  • Lake Mburo is one of the few Ugandan parks where plains zebras roam freely alongside elands, impalas, and topis. Late-afternoon light turns the grassland copper, and the herds move without hurry.

  • A flat-bottomed boat slides out onto the lake as the day cools. Hippos surface nearby, African fish eagles call from papyrus stands, and Nile crocodiles rest on mud banks barely a metre from the hull.

  • En route, the road stops matter as much as the destination. Watch a craftsman hollow and skin a traditional Ugandan drum, then straddle the equator marker at Kayabwe — two hemispheres, one photograph.

  • Before the heat builds, the park is at its most candid. Buffaloes graze close to the track, warthogs trot in single file, and the shy eland — Africa's largest antelope — picks its way through the acacia scrub.

  • Over 350 species have been recorded in the park. The papyrus yellow warbler works the lakeshore reeds while the bare-faced go-away-bird announces itself loudly from every dead tree. Bring binoculars.
